Last chance! Ends Saturday 12 August 2017
Don’t miss your chance to see the vibrant, abstract works by French artist Monique Frydman. Her first UK solo exhibition presents works from over thirty years of her career. Her major work is the double-sided Polyptych Sassetta, 2012-13, painted in homage to the work of the early Renaissance artist Stefano di Giovanni, generally known as Sassetta, who created the Borgo San Sepolcro Altarpiece(1437–1444), a masterwork composed of 60 panels, many of which have since been dispersed, lost or irreparably damaged. SUMMER STORYTELLING & CREATIVE WORKSHOP
Can You Change the World ?
With Ehsan Abdollahi (illustrator) and Azita Rassi (translator)
Wednesday 9 August & Friday 11 August, 10 am – 12 noon
£2 per child | Suitable for ages 6 – 10 years
A child uses crayons to colour and change the world, making it kinder, more hopeful place. Boredom gives way to play, darkness to light, drought to rain, crying to laughter, and much more. When I Coloured in the World, illustrated by Ehsan Abdollahi, is a beautiful portrayal of Ahmedreza Ahmadi’s poem about hope and change.
This workshop will explore the poem and its potential to unlock a child’s imagination and act as a springboard for creativity.
Our upcoming autumn education programme to be announced soon!
ON THE TERRACE
JULIEN TIBERI: THE PANORAMIC DAILIES #2
Continues through to Saturday 12 August 2017
Don’t miss Julien Tiberi’s dyed concrete sculpture, The Panoramic Dailies #2 on view on the terrace until Saturday 12 August. As if to mimic the concrete composition of huddled figures, the viewer moves around the congregation, curiously trying to find out what is hidden in the centre of the crowd.
This publication includes insightful essays by Michael Glover, London-based poet, art critic, editor and publisher, Farah Nayeri, culture writer based in London who writes for The New York Times, and Ziba Ardalan, Founder/Director and Curator of Parasol unit, London.
UNIQUE LIMITED EDITION
Smoke of Darkness, 2017
Etching ink on Japanese paper
Mounted on Rives paper
80 x 53 cm (31½ x 20¾ in)
Edition of 8 individual unique monotypes
For each unique monotype, Frydman decided to substitute the press machine with the pressure of her own hand and fingers, to stay close to the concept of painting and of the “intelligence of the hand” and its sensitivity.
It is very important for me to claim the hand and the sensibility of a painter in front of the mechanical image. Monique Frydman, 2017
