Symposium | Artists in the Field:
Ephemeral Landscapes and Experimental Geographies
With artist network *TSOEG and keynote speaker Dr Harriet Hawkins, Royal Holloway University of London

This symposium will consider the wider role of fieldwork in contemporary arts practice, including themes of exploration in Julian Charriere’s work. A panel of artists will share insights into their research, personal fieldwork methodologies, and artist-led expeditions. A discussion will be opened up to examine artistic practice in the landscape, reflecting on the ways artists are redefining the geographic narratives of place, site and encounter.

Artists include: Ignacio Acosta, Luce Choules, Andrew Ranville, Corinne Silva, and Emma Smith.

*TSOEG – Temporal School of Experimental Geography is an itinerant network of artists sharing ideas and responses to landscape through fieldwork.

Poetry Workshop | Future Fossil Spaces with Simon Pomery
Thursday 21 January | 6.30 – 8.30 pm

In this poetry writing workshop you will be encouraged to engage creatively with the exhibition, read poems inspired by science and write in response to a set of poetry exercises. You will also have the chance to share your work with others in a mutually supportive atmosphere.

*Poetry Reading: Wed 28th January, 6.30 – 8 pm an informal opportunity to perform your own poems to a small audience – please email if you’re interested.

Come and participate in this exciting off-site Educational Workshop at the London Art Fair 2016 based at the Business Design Centre Islington. The workshop will incorporate science and artistic practices, inspired by Parasol unit’s current exhibition of Swiss artist Julian Charrière. Flexible drop in workshops with all materials provided.

Workshop is led by artist Luce Choules, geologist Sophy Crosby (GeoFun UK) and artist educator, Lala Thorpe, hosted in partnership with London Art Fair 2016.
